Kader’s 3-point play lifts Cochise to big Region I win

Apaches run home game win streak to 34 games versus rival Arizona Western College

Sophomore guard Ludovic Kader was able to complete a conventional 3-point basket with under 30 seconds left to enable Cochise to take a one-point lead in a hotly contested game versus rival Arizona Western College. The Apaches held on to defeat the Matadors 82-79 in the Stronghold gymnasium on the campus of Cochise College.

Arizona Western jumped on the Apaches early and led 45-40 at halftime. The Apaches were able to regain the lead 58-56 with ten minutes to left to go in the contest. The lead changed hands many times during the final minutes of the game. Sophomore, Naquwan Solomon who finished the game with 11 points, sank two free-throws in the final 12 seconds to seal the victory. Cochise was led by Sophomore Chaz Mack, who recorded another double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds for the night. Freshman, Jamuare Gregg chipped in 10 points as did Sophomore Byran Urrutia.

With the win, Cochise now stands at 18-5 overall and 11-4 in ACCAC play.

Cochise Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said, “our guys were really great at staying together and trusting each other thru adversity. We got off to a poor start, but we were able to get enough defensive stops, and Ludo really made a big offensive play for us at the end of the game. As per usual, Chaz Mack was terrific, scoring the ball and rebounding both ends of the floor. Chaz is a warrior.”
