The Cochise Apaches opened their 2018 season last Sunday when they hosted University of Arizona Club team for two games.
The first game, started by sophomore pitcher Juan Cabrera resulted in a 10-0 victory for the Apaches. Juan Cabrera, Jonathan Ellison (sophomore), Pedro Perdomo (freshman), and Aldo Fernandez combined for a no-hitter. The Cochise College pitching staff ended the game with 9 strikeouts.
Offensively Alexander Marco led the way going 3-3 with 3 RBIs hitting his first career triple. Alex Cornell also had a good offensive performance going 2-4 at the plate with two doubles.
Game 2 of the doubleheader resulted in a 14-0 victory for the Apaches. Freshman pitcher, Anthony Quattrocchi started. He threw 2 innings with 4 strikeouts. Freshman Jake Rogers, and sophomores Aaron Vernon and Anthony Mayorga also pitched well, throwing several strikes and attacking hitters.
For game 2, Luis Perez hit well situationally going 1-3 with 3 RBIs at the plate. Overall all hitters had competitive at-bats with every hitter in the lineup getting at least one base hit. Cochise College position players were also able to put pressure on the defense by stealing 11 bases on the day. All day long the Apaches played solid defense behind their good pitching depth.
The Apaches will get back in action again on February 9 as they head up to Henderson, NV to take part in the 2018 Coyote Classic.
