Apaches lose for the first time in 8-year history of Phoenix Holiday Classic

The Cochise College Men’s Basketball team ended 2017 by winning two of three games in the annual Phoenix College Holiday Classic held in the ‘Bears Den’ gymnasium on the campus of Phoenix College December 28-30.
The Apaches played two perennial NJCAA Region V powers in Howard College and Midland College as well as Regina University of Canada in the three-game Classic.
On Thursday the Apaches opened with a 75-71 loss to Howard College. It was a hard fought game that the Apaches were not able to close.
Friday, Cochise bounced back with a strong 85-70 win over Regina University of Canada. On the final day of the Classic, Cochise beat-up on NJCAA Region V power Midland College. The Apaches routed Midland 82-60 to push their overall record to 11-2 on the season.


Saturday’s win over Midland College was career win 499 for Head Coach Jerry Carrillo during his 22-year career at Cochise College. Carrillo will be vying for his 500th win when Cochise is back home this Wednesday, Jan 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Stronghold gymnasium.The Apaches host Chandler-Gilbert CC.
