Arizona Western hands Cochise first loss of the season, 101-84

Matadors end Cochise 8 game win streak at home in Yuma

The Cochise College Men’s Basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Arizona Western College club that handed the Apaches their first loss of the season on the Matador’ s home court last night in Yuma, AZ.
Arizona Western started out strong and led 40-28 at halftime. The Matadors stretched the lead in the second half, pulling off the 17 point victory. Cochise was led by Sophomore Chaz Mack who tallied 23 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman, Mahki Morris came off the bench to add 21 points for the Apaches in a losing effort. Arizona Western shot a blistering 15-31 from the 3 point arc. The loss drops Cochise to 8-1 overall, and 3-1 in ACCAC play.

Head Coach Jerry Carrillo said, “Arizona Western jumped on us early, and we never really recovered. Arizona Western is a very talented team and outplayed us last night. To their credit, they shot the ball with confidence and defended very hard.

The Apaches return home to the friendly confines of the Stronghold Gymnasium to host the Scottsdale Community College Artichokes on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
