The Apaches improved to 4-0 this weekend with wins over Hillcrest Prep and Taylor Made Prep.
Friday night, the Apaches hosted Hillcrest Prep, which featured four Division I prospects.
Cochise faced a tough test and was able to pull out the victory.
During the opening minutes, both teams traded baskets, making the game interesting. Freshman Mahki Morris entered the game early in the first half and made a couple 3-point baskets to open up the Apache’s lead. Hillcrest Prep was able to keep the game close in the first half, seeing Cochise only up by 10 at the break.
The Apaches had a fast start to the second half, opening the lead to 17 behind the solid play from Jamaure Gregg, who scored easy points at the rim on post-ups and offensive rebounds.
The Apaches won 85-73, led by Morris who finished with 21 points on 4-9 shooting from behind the arc.
Saturday’s contest against Taylor Made was not as close as the previous night. Cochise was able
to score the ball at will and guarded will great passion, only allowing 23 points by Taylor Made at
Cochise played just as well in the second half, surrendering only 18 points in 20 minutes.
Sophomore Chaz Mack led the Apaches in scoring with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Cochise will play its last non-conference game Saturday, November 18 at home against West Coast
Wings at 4:00 p.m.
