On Friday night, the Cochise women’s basketball team defeated Grand Canyon Club (GCU) 90-25.
Freshman Awa Keita lead the Lady Apaches with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Mamita Diagne had 11 points with 8 rebounds, and freshman Maniya Parker had 11 points and 5 rebounds.Jessica Eadsforth-Yates, who is also a freshman, followed with 10 points.
Cochise outrebounded GCU club 57-25 and shot 45% from the field while holding the GCU club to 15%.
On Saturday morning, Cochise added another victory against the 21st ranked College of Southern Idaho
65-58. Mamita Diagne lead the Lady Apaches with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Awa Keita had 12
points and grabbed 8 rebounds and sophomore Deezha Battle followed with 11 points and 5 rebounds.
Cochise shot 49% from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to 35% shooting. The Lady Apaches
outrebounded the Eagles 33-28.
“It was a good weekend for us,” said Coach Laura Hughes. “We brought a lot of energy and teamwork to
the College of Southern Idaho game. Our main goal is to get better every game and we accomplished
that this weekend.”
The Cochise College women’s basketball team is now 3-1 with 2 wins over opponents ranked in the top 25. The Lady Apaches will resume play on November 17 against Arizona Christian University JV at 3 p.m.on the Douglas Campus.
