The Cochise College Apaches recorded a big win this past Saturday against the visiting Pumas of Paradise Valley. The 3-0 win put the Apaches at 4-8-1 for the season with seven games to go.
The Apaches would start the game well as both teams traded good chances to get on the board in the first half. Kayla Birbeck (SO. Tucson, AZ) would make 3 saves in the first half to keep Paradise Valley at bay. The Apaches would find the break through right before halftime in the 43rd minute. Lupita Ibarra (FR. Veracruz, Mexico) would feed Tori Rayan (FR. Sahuarita, AZ), who scored into the top right hand corner of the goal for her first of the year.
The Apaches would continue to stay strong defensively in the second half led by Destiny Tacey (FR. Sierra Vista, AZ), Jenessa Salazar (SO. Douglas, AZ), and Yadi Zavala (SO. Las Vegas, NV). Zavala would also contribute on the offensive end as she would score directly from a corner kick to put the Lady Apaches up 2-0. This was Zavala’s first goal of the season and first of her career at Cochise. The Apaches would add a late goal off a rebound following a free kick. Rayan would hit the crossbar on the initial shot and Tamika Aguilar (SO. Las Vegas, NV) would feed Brunella Cassalino (SO. Lima, Peru) to put the final score at 3-0 in favor of Cochise.
The Apaches will look to continue their winning ways as they take on local rival, Pima Community College, this Tuesday October 3. Kickoff is set for 2pm on the Douglas Campus.
