Apaches can’t overcome early goal

The Cochise College Lady Apaches dropped a close match yesterday afternoon to the visiting Aztecs of
Pima Community College. The loss puts the Apaches at 4-9- 1 with six games remaining on the season.
The Aztecs would take the early lead in the 2 nd minute as the Apaches were slow out of the gate. After
the goal, the Apaches would slowly work their way into creating some chances. Janet Squire (SO.
Tucson, AZ) would come closest with her goal bound shot cleared off the line after a scramble in front of
the goal. Lupita Ibarra (FR. Veracruz, Mexico) would also come close as her shot strayed just past the
post after she found some space in the box.
The Aztecs would add to their lead in the 60 th minute off an own goal from the Apaches. Kayla Birbeck
(SO. Tucson, AZ) would make the initial save with the deflection coming off an Apaches defender and
into the net. The Apaches would cut the deficit in half in the 72 nd minute with Yadi Zavala (SO. Las Vegas,
NV) scoring for the second game in a row directly from a corner kick. The Apaches would continue to put
pressure on the Aztecs in search of an equalizing goal, but were unable to capitalize on any of their
chances. The final score saw Pima in front by a score of 2-1.
The Lady Apaches will hit the road again this Thursday as they travel to Phoenix College. Kickoff is set for
4:30 PM.
