Apaches earn tie at home

The Cochise College women’s soccer team hosted the Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College on
Thursday and battled to a scoreless draw. The tie puts the Apaches record at 2-7- 1.
The Apaches and Artichokes would create scoring chances that were few and far between as neither
team threatened the goal much in the first half of play. The major talking point of the first half was the
Apaches would reduce to 10 players right before halftime as Tamika Aguilar (SO. Las Vegas, NV) would
see red after a scuffle down in the corner with an opposing player. The Apaches looked to regroup at
half time and change tactics as they were down a player.
The second half continued in the same way as the first with both teams limited in the chances they
created. Lupita Ibarra and Crystal Munoz would test the keeper from range, but were unable to find the
net. The back three composed off Destiny Tacey (Fr. Sierra Vista, AZ), Savannah Hobbs (FR. Rio Rico, AZ),
and Jenessa Salazar (SO. Douglas, AZ) would keep the Artichokes at bay for the entire game.
Cochise would finish the match with a 4-3 advantage with shots on goal. Kayla Birbeck (SO. Tucson, AZ)
made 3 saves and earned the shutout in the stalemate.
The Apaches head on the road again for their third and final match this week as they go to Chandler
Gilbert on Saturday September 23 rd . Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30pm.
