The Cochise College women’s soccer team traveled to Phoenix on Thursday to take on the Cougars of South Mountain Community College. The Apaches were able to score early and often on their way to a 7-0 win.

Crystal Munoz (FR. Douglas, AZ) would open the scoring in the 5th minute off an assist from Kira Sevor (FR. San Jose, CA). It would take the Apaches fifteen minutes to score again with roles being reversed as Sevor would score and Munoz picking up the assist. Sevor would score her fourth goal of the year four minutes later off an assist from Janet Squire. Tamika Aguilar (SO. Las Vegas, NV) continued the scoring in the 24th minute on an unassisted goal for her first of the year. Brunella Cassalino (SO. Lima, Peru) would add the fifth of the half 15 minutes before half time.

The second half saw Cochise continue to create chances and hit the post and crossbar on three separate attacks. The Apaches would add a sixth goal in the 62nd minute off an Aguilar penalty kick following a foul in the box. With 11 minutes remaining Cochise scored their final goal from Janet Squire (SO. Tucson, AZ) with the assist going to Lupita Ibarra (FR. Veracruz, Mexico).

A shutout was earned by both Cochise goalkeepers with Kayla Birbeck (SO. Tucson, AZ) minding the net in the first half and Erika Cuevas (FR. Sierra Vista, AZ) in the second.

The Apaches will look to continue their winning ways as the host the Gateway Community College Gekos on Monday, September 11th. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm.
