On a beautiful yet windy day the Apaches came out to play today and won 2 games against Paradise Valley Pumas. It was an offensive day with some quality starting pitching in the first game and a locked in bullpen.
In the first game of the doubleheader the Apaches did it all. Juan Cabrera did it again with another quality start going 6 innings giving up 3 hits walking 3 and striking out 6 to earn another win in his young Apache career. Offensively, 8 of the 9 hitters got hits and 7 of 9 each had RBI’s, talk about a complete team effort. Jamori Blash and Alexander Marco each had multi-hit days helping the Apaches receive a total of 10 for the game.
In the second game, the Apaches found themselves in a hole giving up 6 runs in the first two innings but the bullpen kept the pumas off balance for the rest of the game giving the Apaches enough time to come back. Relief appearances from Aaron Vernon, Jerry Ochoa and Alex Tovalin were key. Vernon came in for 4 1/3 innings giving up only 2 hits and 1 earned run while only walking 2 and striking out 6. That is the second straight huge relief appearance this week and we hope to see this trend continue. Ochoa and Tovalin came in the 8th and 9th to shut it down; Ochoa came in and got a groundball double play in the 8 th and Tovalin used 3 batters to receive the save. Offensively 8 of 9 hitters again got a hit in the game with 6 of the 9 having multi-hit games. Taggart Baxter, who had just come off the DL this week had a big game going 4 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI’s and scoring once. Jamori Blash, Alexander Marco, Alex Cornell and Max Draijer all had 2 hits in the game with at least one RBI. Blash and Valenzuela added a bomb to go along with those hits.
Keep the offense coming because the Apaches pitching will only get better from here on out. Come watch the Apaches face the number one opponent in the ACCAC in Phoenix College @ Phoenix College @ 12pm or follow the Apaches on Gamechanger.
