In a big road game, the Cochise College women’s basketball team beat Arizona Western 59-45 on Saturday evening. Sophomores Shannon Powell and Ciara Fields were both instrumental in the victory. Powell scored 13 points to go along with her 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Fields wasn’t far behind with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Tatyana McFarland, Deezha Battle, and Sophia Elenga all chipped in 7 points each and Elenga pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds.
It was a tough shooting night for both teams, with Cochise shooting 37% from the field and Arizona Western only hitting 27% of their field goals. Although the Matadors managed to out-rebound the Apaches 40-33, with 18 of those being offensive rebounds, the Matadors weren’t able to take advantage of their second chance opportunities.
