Cochise College’s baseball team traveled to Henderson, Nevada, to start a brand new season this week, and it was a good start to the 2017 baseball season.

In their opening day game, the Apaches went up against the College of Southern Nevada. Logan Bottrell gave the College of Southern Nevada fits, as he bagged four hits and Juan Cabrera put in 5 strong innings in the Apaches 17-3 victory on Thursday. The Cochise College Apaches Varsity team took an early lead in the first inning on Baxter’s sac fly that scored one run. They continued to add by scoring six runs in the second inning and nine in the third inning.

The Apaches big inning was driven by Bottrell, a fielder’s choice by Dominic DeMarco, a walk by Baxter, a walk by Canice Ejoh, a single by Jacob Thoning, a error and a single by Bottrell, again. Juan Cabrera earned the win for the Apaches. He pitched five innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, striking out six and walking one. Two relievers helped Cochise Varsity close out the victory. The Apaches had a total of 14 hits in the game, while also converting 11 walks, making it difficult for the coyote pitchers. Bottrell, Baxter, and Alexander Marco each collected multiple hits for the Apaches. Cochise takes on Southern Nevada again tomorrow at CSN for a double header starting at Noon. Games can be streamed on CSN’s website.
