Coyotes break under Cochise

The Cochise College women’s basketball team routed the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes, 96-46 in front of their home crowd on Saturday evening. Ciara Fields led the way for Cochise with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals, and Tatyana McFarland also had a solid game with 14 points and 8 rebounds.

Mamita Diagne had 11 points to go along with 6 rebounds, and Jordyn Penniman and Shannon Powell had 10 points and 2 steals each. Juwanna Milton, Jasmine Coleman and Sophia Elenga scored 8 points each. Coleman also collected 5 rebounds and had 3 steals, while Elenga had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. 

The Apaches built a 21-0 lead to start the game and the Coyotes never rallied back. The score was 48-15 at half time, and Cochise’s lead grew to 45 points at the end of the 3rd quarter, and ultimately earned 50 points to end the game. Cochise shot 52% from the floor and grabbed 44 rebounds as a team while Chandler-Gilbert shot 33% and grabbed 20 rebounds of their own. 

Cochise will travel west to Tucson for another showdown with the Pima Aztecs on Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m.
