Apaches defeated Eastern CC 7-5 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game.  A quality start by Bret Matthews going 5 innings giving up 3 hits and allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 5 and walking 2 was sufficient for the freshman’s first start. The bullpen took care of the rest as Anthony Toribio received the win and Jaime Yanchisin shut the door for his 2nd save of the year. Offensively the Apaches had to work for it from the start getting down early. But they scored in the last 5 of inning of the game to secure the win. 1 run in the 5th, 6th and 7thinning and putting up 2 crooked numbers in the 8th and 9th. Logan Bottrell and Luis Hidalgo each had multiple hits in the win with Alexander Marco coming up big, again, in a pitch hit situation.

The Apaches head home for a few days of practice then return back on the bus to travel to El Paso, TX to take on El Paso CC ON Friday and Saturday for two Doubleheaders. Come watch the Apaches continue their winning ways or follow them on Gamechanger.

Day 2 of the Coyote Classic Battle was alright splitting with two good teams. The first game against Southern Idaho did not go the Apaches way as they lost 11-10. In the second game of the day against Salt Lake City the Apaches handled their own in a 13-0 quick game.

In game 1 vs Southern Idaho there was not enough starting pitching, no timely hitting and poor defense but on the positive side the Apaches were still in the game. Going into the last inning of the game the Apaches still had the opportunity to turn the game around but with a few of CSI hits and a walk the Apaches got walked off.

In game 2 vs Salt Lake City it was one of the best hitting performances Coach Todd Inglehart has ever seen. Baseballs being squared up and hitters just having really good at-bats. The Apaches scored 8 runs in the 1st and 5 more in the 3rd to secure the win behind Jerry Ochoa 4 shutout innings. Ochoa went 4 scoreless giving up only 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking only 1. On the offense side, Dominc DeMarco, Jamori Blash, Jacob Thoning and Max Draijer all had multiple hits in the game. Tag Baxter and Luis Hidalgo continued tearing up the baseball as each had an “OPPO” BOMB and each collected 4 RBI’s.

The Apaches finish off their road trip tomorrow as they face Utah State University Eastern CC @ 12pm. Follow us on Gamechanger!
